Smooch!

On Tuesday when Sofia woke up she told me it was time to decorate the house for Valentine's Day. Did she really know it was February 1? She actually thought Valentine's Day was that day! She's three and she loves all things pink and heart-shaped, like most little girls do at some point. So, in honor of my desire to try to understand her obsession with pink and of Valentine's Day, I will be exploring all things pink in my next few posts. Plus, I had to share this gorgeous pink glassybaby called smooch with you!

During the month of Feburary, 10% from the sale of each smooch glassybaby sold will be donated to the Seattle Children's Hospital Family Resource center to support families of children in treatment. Click here to purchase.

Pink, Pink, Pink!

Yesterday, out of the blue Sofia exclaimed "I love everything pink!" This morning she clarified that it's not any old pink, it's HOT PINK! Indeed, two of her favorite books are Pinkaliscious and My Big Pink Book of Everything. The irony is that when we found out we were having a girl, I told my mom "No pink. She's not going to be a pink girl. Her colors will be orange and lime green with pink as an accent, maybe!" But the fact of the matter is baby girls look adorable in pink. So I embraced pink along with "my colors" orange and green!

I loved my friend Jeanne’s “Romancing Red” blog post yesterday.  I showed the pictures to Sofia and we both literally gasped when we saw the gorgeous image of a red Eiffel Tower. Although Sofia said “Ooh, look, an orange Eiffel Tower!”
This pink version is pretty cute too!

I have lots of fun topics and images to share – from food to fashion to flowers and music.  I am starting to think I might actually like pink after all.

But first I thought I would start by researching the meaning of the color pink to try to understand why some girls love it so much.

The Meaning of Pink

Anyone who knows me or has read my blog knows I love color – especially orange! I always have visually and now I’m taking it a step further to understand the meaning of colors and how and why they make us feel a certain way. According to several sources online:

Pink is the color of universal love.
Pink is a quiet color (unless it’s HOT pink).
Lovers of beauty favor pink.

Pink Energy

Pink is a combination of red and white. The quality of energy in pink is determined by how much red is present. White is the potential for fullness, while red helps you achieve that potential. Pink combines these energies. Shades of deep pink, such as magenta, are effective in neutralizing disorder and violence. Pink provides feelings of caring, tenderness, self-worth, love and acceptance.

Maybe adding more pink to our lives isn’t a bad thing, especially for me to neutralize the spiciness from orange! Maybe that’s why Sofia loves pink so much. We balance each other out. And maybe that’s why pink and orange are such a great color combination.

Tomorrow I will share pictures of our Valentine’s decorations.

Until then, smooches!

  3. Hello AHA! I found your blog while doing some research on the color "old pink" (which is really purple - but we can argue that another time). I work in the fashion industry, and wore a purple shirt to work today. One of my esteemed female coleagues also wore a purple shirt, to which I commented "Oh cool, you got the memo and wore purple today!" and she responded in a correctional tone of voice "...old pink...I am wearing old pink." I laughed and made fun.. "Pfft..old pink!?!?! Whateverrrr!!" As it turns out, old pink (pronounced PURPLE) exists.

So, I have found your blog..by accident..and as it turns out enjoy reading it. Weird.

P.S. - While glassbabys are cool, I so DO NOT enjoy pink and needed a therapist after reading this particular blog. LOL!! To each their own I say...I'll just have to enjoy your non-pink blogs.
