Happy International Colour Day

March 21 is International Colour Day! Another reason to celebrate spring!  All around the world memorable colour activities take place on this day to celebrate colour as one of the
most influential phenomena in people’s lives and also one of the channels that contributes most greatly to the perception of reality.

Someone asked me recently why I like colour so much. I was kind of surprised by the question, because it seems everyone likes colour, even if they don't realize it. But I think the question was more about my LOVE of colour. I boldly proclaimed, "Because color makes people happy!"

I've put together a happy collection of some of my favorite accessories that I wear to add a pop of color to my life every day, not just on International Colour Day!

Crushing on Dazzling Blue

 

Happy first day of spring friends! It's my favorite season. I love the flowers, sweet scents and colors of course!

I'm really excited about Pantone's number 1 pick for Spring 2014: Dazzling Blue. Move over Radiant Orchid, I have a new favorite! (Actually I think Dazzling Blue and Radiant Orchid look fab together.) I'm totally crushing on this vibrant blue hue right now. I've never been a "blue girl" but this gorgeous color has totally captured my attention for Spring 2014.

I was so surprised by my infatuation with this color that I asked my color guru and Pantone color expert, Leatrice Eisemen, about it. Here's what she said:

"Dazzling Blue does not fit the usual 'conventional wisdom" of blue as calming and serene. Quite the contrary, it is in the family of 'electric' blues, carrying much the same energy of a vibrant red. Blue stars burn the brightest, a gas flame is blue (as opposed to red and oranges) and even Mars Candy got the message that a blue M&M is not only energizing, but attention-getting."

 

Aah, now I get it!

Here's how I'm wearing it for a meeting with a favorite client today. I'll throw on a Radiant Orchid scarf to complete the outfit and ward off the chill in the air today.

 

 

 

Finally, I just had to share this beautiful song that I heard while I was writing this post. I've never heard it before. Coincidentally, or not, it's about the color blue. "Blue - the most human color" is the line that really caught my attention. It's a lovely song. Enjoy! Too Pretty Not to Share No. 3

I read an enchanting article about Sarah Jessica Parker in the February issue of InStyle magazine recently. Katie Couric interviewed her and I learned a lot about this wonderful fashionista, actress, mother, wife, activist.

I think this Chanel dress she's wearing is absolutely breathtaking... too pretty not to share! Not only are the colors gorgeous, but I love the feminine lace on the hemline and the draping neckline. Sometime SJP's style is a little over-the-top for me (which she talks about in the interview), but I think this is absolutely perfect. I wish I could recreate it. It would make a fun watercolor project.

Too Pretty Not to Share No. 2

 

I took a stroll through the Volunteer Park Conservatory this morning and what I saw falls into the category of Too Pretty Not to Share. I think I will start a series! I'm calling the above orchid collage "Color Exotica."

And this one is "Orange and Coral - Ooh la la."

 

And this one is "Hydrangea Gazing."

 

Nature is absolutely amazing. These flowers are so gorgeous and such a gift - to be shared. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

In Full Bloom

I am counting the days until the first day of spring and when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom in the University of Washington Quad. In the meantime, I ordered a tin of this Cherry Blossom green tea from Harney & Sons. 

Spring is my favorite season of the year - so fresh, colorful and fragrant. What are you looking forward to most about the coming season?

Too Pretty Not to Share

I had tea today with my friend Mary (who is the Giving Manager at glassybaby; cool job huh?!). This gorgeous little gem was on the table in the cafe where we met. It caught my attention and almost took my breath away -- it is so pretty. Take a close look at the colors and texture. It's as if the glassybaby was made just for this succulent. 

Now that I look closer at the whole picture, all of the colors are absolutely stunning. I thought it was too pretty not to share! I hope you enjoy it too.
